Theremin

01The Instrument

Invented in 1920 by Léon Theremin, it is played without physical contact: one hand shapes pitch, the other controls volume, moving through invisible electromagnetic fields around two antennas. There are no keys, frets or fixed notes — every interval is found by ear.

Theremin is also part of the sound work.
